Things that matter

Have you ever had to let go?

It has taken a year; setting up my studio in Italy.

A year of development.

I’ve always made art, still it feels different now it feels freer, clearer.

Everything feels different now.

It’s strange when your life changes so much you don’t recognize it, yet you like it.

It’s the last day of February a cold strange day, as days go - I’m glad tomorrow is the 1st of March.

There are snowflakes falling that melt on contact with the earth, the electricity has gone out.

I sit in the gloominess with a candle for company, it’s midday.

I live in solitude on a hill overlooking Florence - good for making art,

lonely, I have to let go and embrace this new strange life.

Have you ever had to let go and then let go and then let go again?

In the end these things matter most:

o   How well did you love?

o   How fully did you live?

o   How deeply did you learn to let go?

I’m about to start a new series of paintings

they will contain love, life and letting go.
